Reflections as a Team Leader
1. While ensuring that the team members reach their goals, do I also keep in account how they are doing it? Are they burnt out? Are they delivering just by following instructions? Are they connected to the purpose of the project?
Also, are the team members missing out on other things integral to the organization while trying to meet the team goals?
2. Am I able to draw a line between heavy lifting for the team and doing all the work by myself? If I have a better way of doing things efficiently, am I able to show my process to others so that they can also do it? Am I thinking about the process from an eagle's eye view and thinking of scaling it to help others beyond my team?
3. Am I able to support my associates emotionally as well as in their work? Before allocating work to someone, am I asking them about their schedules for the day? Am I factoring in their contributions for the organization as a whole or holding them accountable only for the team goals they had to achieve at the end of the week? Am I giving them enough time to self-learn? Or, am I blocking their time to meet my team's objectives?
4. Am I consistent with the leadership qualities even when I am not a leader by role? Am I seeing leadership as a 'title' or as a 'mindset'? Do I 'want' to be a leader because of the position or because of the experience and exposure I'd get from the opportunity for an accelerated growth?
